AI Mail MCP

Use a domain you already own for your AI agent's email

If your domain already has email, you do not move it. Your MX records and mail host stay exactly as they are. You prove you own the domain with one TXT record, then forward an address to a mailbox your agent reads.

What you will end up with

Mail sent to agent@yourdomain.com keeps arriving at your current mail host, which forwards it to an AI Mail mailbox. Your agent reads it there with list_messages. Nothing about your existing mail changes, and you can stop at any point by removing the forwarding rule.

Before you start

A custom domain needs a prepaid account, and the free sandbox has no custom domains. Connect AI Mail to your assistant (https://aimailmcp.com/mcp) with Manage account switched on, so it can add the domain for you.

Step by step

  1. Add the domain. Ask your assistant to run add_domain for your domain. It returns the plan, including the exact TXT record to publish.
  2. Publish one TXT record at your DNS host. The name is _aimail.yourdomain.com and the value is aimail-verify= followed by your token. Leave your MX, SPF and every other record alone. A domain whose DNS is elsewhere keeps its current MX.
  3. Verify. Run verify_domain. DNS can take a few minutes; it reports ownership_txt true once the record is visible and marks the domain verified.
  4. Create the mailbox. Run create_mailbox for the address you want, such as agent@yourdomain.com. list_mailboxes shows its route address, r-<key>@aimailmcp.com.
  5. Forward to the route address. In the mail host where your domain's MX points, add a forwarding rule, alias or routing rule that sends the address to the route address. Every mailbox has one, and any mail host can forward to it. Keep a copy in the old mailbox if you want one.
  6. Test it. Send a message to the address and ask your assistant to read it with list_messages.

What to leave alone

Do not change your MX records to point at AI Mail, and do not delete your existing mail setup: the forwarding rule is the connection. If the domain's DNS is on a host you cannot edit, the TXT record is the only change AI Mail needs.

Sending

A domain with its DNS elsewhere can receive but cannot send. Your agent can draft a reply for a person to send from your normal mail, or answer from an address on AI Mail's shared domain, which a prepaid account creates with no DNS. An address with no domain at all.

Try it

Connect AI Mail to your assistant (https://aimailmcp.com/mcp) and paste:

Add my domain yourdomain.com to AI Mail, show me the TXT record to publish, and tell me the route address for agent@yourdomain.com once it is verified.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to change my MX records?

No. A domain whose DNS is elsewhere keeps its current MX. You publish one TXT record to prove ownership, and your current mail host forwards the address to the mailbox's route address.

What is a route address?

Every mailbox has one, an address starting r- on AI Mail's domain. Any mail host can forward to it, and it delivers into that mailbox.

Can the agent send from my domain?

No. A domain whose DNS is elsewhere can receive mail but cannot send. A prepaid account can create an address on AI Mail's shared domain and send from there.

Can I use my own domain in the free trial?

No. The free sandbox has no custom domains, and a custom domain needs a prepaid account.
